One evening, we were sitting in the lanai and heard the hoot of a great horned owl. Pretty cool, but not all that unusual. We heard a second hoot, coming from a different tree, and then, a third from still another tree.

There were three owls around our yard!

They continued to hoot, one after the other, for about 20 minutes. What an outdoor concert it was; surround sound to the extreme.

We are not sure why three owls would be in the same vicinity at once. Male and female owls do hoot at each other when courting; perhaps there were two males vying for the female’s attention. Whatever the reason, it was a great experience.

FOG sez: I wish I was as wise as an owl. I was told age brings wisdom. In my case age forgot to bring wisdom along.
