These are really graceful birds. They stand about three feet tall. Notice the green around the eyes of the bird in the top photo. That is part of the breeding plumage. The bird on the left is not ready to breed.
Egrets are a common sight in Florida, found around both fresh and salt water. It is not uncommon to see them looking for food in backyards, especially after a soaking rain.
They are patient hunters, often stalking prey for several minutes. I have mistakenly thought a neighbor put a new lawn ornament is his year, only to realize it is a live egret looking for a tasty morsel to come his way.
